DEVASISH SHARMA, IAS
Founder Chairman & Trustee
Born in Jorhat, Assam and an alumnus of Govt. HS School, Daporijo, Don Bosco School, Dibrugarh, Swami Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Digboi and Ramjas College, Delhi University, Devashish Sharma, is the Founder Chairman and Trustee of Deepsikha (A Trust for Cancer Care).
His journey after graduating in English Literature and completing his post-graduation in Public Relations, Mr. Sharma joined the Assam Civil Services in 1992 where he was first posted at Barpeta. After this, he was posted as the OSD to the then Governor of Assam, Lt General S K Sinha.
In 2003, Sharma was posted as the Deputy Resident Commissioner of the Assam Bhawan in Mumbai and this is when he witnessed the plight of cancer patients and their families from far flung places of India, coming to Mumbai for treatment. This made him come up with the idea of forming an NGO that would cater to the innumerable challenges faced by cancer patients and their families during the course of their treatment.
Thus began the journey of this organization in 2004, with a small group of friends and colleagues to lend a humble helping hand and offer support to cancer patients during those crucial days. His dedicated efforts blossomed into…. Deepsikha.
Mr. Sharma is currently serving as the District Commissioner at the Morigaon District in Assam.
